Quarterly Report

The Quarterly Report is the AMA’s release of import data in between the larger Market Report, which is published on a calendar year basis. Quarterly Reports are published for the March, June and September quarters.

Periods

The Quarterly Report is currently produced for the ‘in between’ periods (year to March, year to June, year to September), not for the Calendar Year. See the full Annual Report for Calendar Year data. The report includes year to date summaries, which can be used as a rolling assessment of the market at the most recent point in time and to align with other fiscal years.

  • Year to March 31 (March Quarterly Report): Japanese fiscal year
  • Year to June 30 (June Quarterly Report): Australian fiscal year, alignment with AMA State of the Industry Report period.
  • Year to September 30 (September Quarterly Report): US fiscal year, most recent data available for those that need it during the NAMM Show
  • Year to December 31 (Market Report): Calendar year, alignment with NAMM Global Report, fiscal year in some European and other countries

  • Table 1: Most recent complete year compared to the equivalent periods over the previous year, 5 and 10 year averages
  • Table 2:  Imports by quarter, in comparison to equivalent periods in other years and the 10-year average
  • Table 3: 10 years, Year to Date, by Section (Units)
  • Table 4: 10 years, Year to Date, by Section (Value)
  • Table 5, 10 years, Year to Date, by Category (Units)
  • Table 6, 10 years, Year to Date, by Category (Value)
  • Table 7: 4 years, Quarterly, by Section (Units)
  • Table 8: 4 years, Quarterly, by Section (Value)

Data

This report uses quarterly data from the ABS, in a similar way to the AMA’s Annual Market Report, with less detail and for a different period of time. This report shows Category and Section totals by Quarter and Year to Date. The methodology for collecting, filtering, analysing and presenting the data is the same as for the full Market Report.

Quarterly Report Releases

Please note that there have been several disruptions to the release schedule. The plan for the AMA Quarterly Report outlines a schedule of releases in May (for March quarter), August (for June quarter) and October (for September quarter). 

Notes

  • Historically the AMA has published its main report as a calendar release report, with a mid-year / financial year / ‘year to June quarter’ data release. After initially attempting quarterly releases, the pattern of releases reverted to two each year (calendar year, financial year) in 2024 & 2025. The release schedule is returning to quarterly reports in 2026.
  • A year in the quarterly report uses the most recently completed 12 month period. eg. the March 2024 report treats June 2023, September 2023, December 2023, March 2024 quarters as a year and uses Jun-Sep-Dec-Mar for all previous years to calculate comparisong.
  • The timing of this report varies depending on other AMA projects, but as a guide it will be prepared and presented in the middle to end of the quarter after the period we are presenting. eg. For the March report, which includes data up to 31st March, the report will be available by June. The Annual Report has 220 tables (rather than 10 in the Quarterly Report) and takes longer to prepare, the new target is early May (for the previous Calendar Year).
