Musicians who are registered members of an eligible musical association can request additional baggage allowance and are permitted to travel with a total of three (3) pieces per musician (instead of the standard allowance) with a weight allowance applicable to their class of travel and Frequent Flyer status.
Refer to Baggage Information for the dimensions and weight of musical instruments permitted to be taken as carry-on baggage.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the musicians’ additional baggage allowance, your customer must:
- Be travelling with a musical instrument or touring equipment; and
- Be travelling on Qantas domestic flights operated by Qantas and QantasLink (within Australia); and
- Make the request three (3) or more business days prior to departure; and
- Must be a current member of one of the following eligible musical associations and able to provide membership details at check-in.

- Heavy charges apply to customers with a maximum weight limit of 23kgs per piece who exceed that limit and are payable at the airport.
- Maximum weight of each piece cannot exceed 32kgs.
- Up to two (2) additional pieces of baggage can be pre-purchased on top of the musicians baggage allowance to meet the maximum of five (5) pieces per customer.
- Additional baggage allowance must be pre-purchased for all international flights booked in conjunction with domestic flights.
- Baggage on flights to Lord Howe Island is subject to specific restrictions.
- Your customer’s Frequent Flyer number is to be entered into the booking prior to making a request for musicians additional baggage allowance.
