FAQ
When will the results be released?
October
Who should complete this survey?
Either an owner/manager, or a suitable person delegated by the owner/manager, from any business in the Australian music products industry. This includes retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, publishers, and closely related businesses for musical instruments, pro audio products, print music, accessories and associated products & services.
Does this survey cover recorded music products (records, CDs) or home audio equipment?
No
Who is conducting and analysing the survey?
Alex Masso, Executive Officer of the Australian Music Association, in collaboration with the AMA board.
Is the survey anonymous?
Yes
Are the results be publicly released?
Like the AMA’s other reports, the full report will be available to AMA members, and a summary will be available publicly.
Does the report contain sales or import data?
Several questions ask for sales trends by category, based on overall results assessed by business owners in those categories. Only guitar wholesalers or retailers answer questions about guitar sales trends, for example. The AMA Market Report contains import data, which is a proxy for sales in Australia. There is no collection of MI POS data in Australia, as is the case in some other markets.
Is it the same every year?
Most of the report is repeated with identical questions each year, to allow for comparisons over time. The ‘issues’ section includes one standard, repeated question and a series of other questions that change each year. The 2024 survey asked about refunds and returns, skills and training, while the 2025 survey asked about plastic packaging and tariffs.
