The report will cover business confidence, product category trends, industry issues, and more. This report underpins the theme of the Summit and will inform discussions throughout the day.

Its work includes commissioning important research on music in NSW & SA schools, initial teacher education for music, and the research underpinning quality music education. In this session we will hear about and discuss the state of play and what still needs to be done.

Speakers

John Mlynczak is the President and CEO of NAMM, with expertise in the music industry, education, technology, and leadership. He previously worked as Vice President of Music Education & Technology at Hal Leonard and as Director of Education at PreSonus Audio. As a musician, he plays trumpet in the MetWinds and has performed in various ensembles. John earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Masters degrees in both Music Performance and Education Leadership from Louisiana State University.

Lindsay Carroll is the CEO and Legal Practice Director at the National Retail Association, overseeing one of the largest in-house team of workplace relations advisors and lawyers for the retail industry. Lindsay is a leading workplace relations specialist and regularly provides advice on the full spectrum of workplace relations and work health and safety in Australia.
David Johnson is the Managing Director of Watchdog Compliance and has over 30 years experience in Competition and Consumer Law.  As a compliance professional David specialises in assisting clients to achieve effective on-going compliance with their legal obligations while achieving their commercial objectives.  Prior to Watchdog Compliance, David worked for the ACCC and as a senior lawyer with the Australian Government Solicitor.

Emily is a social impact and sustainability strategist and member of the 5th generation at Alberts. She was the inaugural Executive Officer for Alberts | The Tony Foundation and is currently Head of Impact across the business and heads the Music Education: Right from the Start initiative.

Eric has a background in public policy and advocacy. He has held senior leadership positions in a number of organisations including as Director of the Whitlam Institute (2007-2017).

The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) is the not-for-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry. Originally founded in 1901, NAMM represents 15,000 global member companies and individual professionals.

The National Retail Association is a not-for-profit organisation that represents local retailers from various segments and advocates for their interests. Its members get access to legal, HR, leasing, training and networking support, as well as policy and events.
