The Australian Music Association is pleased to announce that at the last executive committee meeting it appointed Alex Masso as the new Executive Officer of the AMA. Alex will replace our longest serving EO, Rob Walker and the executive believes Alex will do a great job taking over where Rob left off.
Alex has a strong background in the industry having worked for the Music Council of Australia and as a music educator at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and privately. Alex is a respected Sydney jazz musician and a strong music education advocate. He is a board member of the Sydney Improvised Music Association and current NSW President (Musicians Section) of the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance.
AMA president, Anthony Ursino said, “Alex brings a strong understanding of both the traditional side of the industry as well as the contemporary side and has an enthusiasm for all things music related. The AMA is excited to have Alex on board and we look forward to updating you with the issues he will be addressing after the next executive meeting in March.”
Alex said “The AMA is committed to serving its members, representing the industry, encouraging music making, and supporting musical life in Australia. I’m really looking forward to being involved in all of that. I’m also happy to be learning from and following in the footsteps of Rob, who has led the development of some of the AMA’s main activities and working with the board to make progress on the AMA’s priorities.”
Alex took up the position on March 1.
